Our History

James Barbershop was established in Killorglin in November 2012. At James Barbershop, we offer more than just a haircut. We offer a professional and friendly service where all of our haircuts are given 100 per cent attention to detail. We are at the forefront of modern trends while still keeping all the traditions of an old school barbershop where chats, stories and a bit of craic is always welcome. The staff at James Barbershop are constantly upskilling and learning in order to keep up to date with all the latest styles. Our Barbers are committed to providing the best haircuts, using traditional barbering mixed with modern-day techniques to achieve the look you want. We cater for all aspects of male grooming including young children right up to adults and senior citizens. We have a special dedicated children’s car for those boys who might need a bit of a distraction or entertainment while getting their hair cut. As well as providing more modern and up to date hairstyles that the younger male demographic are requesting, we also cater for those men who prefer a more traditional regular cut. The barbershop is also wheelchair accessible. We are also very accommodating and welcoming of anyone who may have extra needs or disabilities. James Sheehan

Hello everybody My name is James Sheehan and I am the proud owner and manager of James Barbershop. As a young fella, I always had an interest in barbering. However, when I finished school, I trained and qualified as a carpenter. I worked as a carpenter for 13 years. When the recession hit in 2008, I was out of work and I decided this was the perfect opportunity for me to pursue my interest in barbering. This brought me into Killarney where I began my training as a barber at Julie Healy academy. It wasn’t long before I was cutting hair and loving my job. Once my training was complete, I decided I wanted to open my own barbershop. With the help and support of South Kerry Development Partnership and family, I set up my own business in Killorglin in 2012.I won two awards during my career so far.

I have worked in James Barbershop, Killorglin since he opened the doors in 2012. Over the years, James has trained me to be a confident and capable barber that stays ahead of trends and most importantly puts my customers young and old first.

After my leaving cert in 2018, I trained and received my Certificate of Barbering from Frank Hackett Retro Barbers and in 2019 I received my Diploma in Barbering at the London School of Barbering. I hope to go back to get my Masters in Barbering soon.

I absolutely love barbering, no day is ever the same! I’m lucky to work in James Barber Shop. It’s a great place to work – the staff, atmosphere, cuts, craic and the clients are top class. I never stop learning, improving and being the best I can be!

In 2020 I was nominated in the Male grooming Category at the Connect Kerry Hair & Beauty Awards 2020.

I started hairdressing when I left school at 17. I began my training in 2007 in both women’s and men’s hair. I qualified in level 5 at mallow college of further education where I studied hairdressing for 2 years. I have worked in hairdressers and barbers in Ireland Australia and New Zealand. I have completed many courses including colour correction, advanced cutting and barbering.

I have a keen interest in classic cuts and also enjoy keeping up with the latest trends. I have worked in James barbershop since 2014.

Hairstylist at James barbershop since 2019. I trained at the cork academy of hairdressing to learn the craft of hairstyling and barbering. Since getting my qualifications I spent two years gaining valuable experience in male grooming work at Steve’s Barbershop Killarney.

  I come to Kerry on average once a year and visited James' Barbershop for a hair and beard trim on the morning of a friend's wedding. I have long hair but that was no problem, the guys sorted me out and gave me a really good haircut. What's best about the barbershop is the service - was a great laugh throughout and the vibe was top notch. Will visit again when I'm next in Kerry! You can't go wrong

  James cut my 2.5-year-old son’s hair and was brilliant with him. My son had quite long hair and I wanted a scissor cut that would tidy it up while keeping the length, and James did exactly that.The setup for kids is great -a racing car seat, cartoons on an iPad, toys, and he even gave him a balloon and lollipop afterwards. My son now thinks going to the barber is fun instead of something to be scared of. Highly recommend for anyone bringing young kids!

  Such a great place! Everyone here is super friendly and professional, they really make you feel at home. The atmosphere is always positive and welcoming. But honestly, James is the best barber in all of Kerry! I’ve been going here since he opened in 2012. James always does an amazing job and knows exactly what you need. Couldn’t recommend him more!

  Our two boys got a very smart haircut at James' Barber Shop. We were greeted with a welcoming smile and a very positive atmosphere. Our boys played happily with the toys and were taken quickly even though we had no appointment. We were lucky because this is a very popular place for kids and adult haircuts. Our youngest sat in the kids car and was content watchimg cartoons on James' tablet. Our eldest sat in the 'big' chair on a booster and still got to watch the tablet so he was delighted. The haircuts are very dapper and they both look very smart. They really enjoyed their visit to James Barber Shop in Killorglin...especially leaving with a new haircut AND a lollipop! Thank you to James and his staff for an enjoyable experience.

  Took my 3 year old to James' today, as he refuses to get his hair cut by anyone. James was an absolute gentleman to deal with and was so calming, reassuring and patient with my little boy who was less than co-operative! James managed to give a great haircut all whilst my little man sat on my lap! Fair play! Thanks to Patrick for making a balloon also and to James for leaving us take one of the toys home. As a mom who was nervous about this experience, i was so happy with the experience! Will definitely be back recommending to friends and family. Thanks so much lads

  Hands down the most unbelievable service! James is an absolute gent and made our little boys hair cut the most amazing experience. From the minute we went in he showed Jack all the toys he had in the shop, James then went above and beyond asking what Jack likes to watch and got his favourite show on the tablet and next was into the big red car. Jack was so excited and loved every minute. The haircut was exactly what I asked for and James definitely has a way with young kids. Everyone in there was so friendly and professional. Thanks everyone we will be back and I would highly recommend anyone to go for their kids haircuts.

  My son's 1st haircut was such an enjoyable experience! He was in a little car, playing with toys while James did his thing. A lock of hair in an envelope & a family photo at the end really made the experience perfect⭐
