James' Barbershop

The Cutting Team

Our History

James Barbershop was established in Killorglin in November 2012. At James Barbershop, we offer more than just a haircut. We offer a professional and friendly service where all of our haircuts are given 100 per cent attention to detail. We are at the forefront of modern trends while still keeping all the traditions of an old school barbershop where chats, stories and a bit of craic is always welcome. The staff at James Barbershop are constantly upskilling and learning in order to keep up to date with all the latest styles. Our Barbers are committed to providing the best haircuts, using traditional barbering mixed with modern-day techniques to achieve the look you want. We cater for all aspects of male grooming including young children right up to adults and senior citizens. We have a special dedicated children’s car for those boys who might need a bit of a distraction or entertainment while getting their hair cut. As well as providing more modern and up to date hairstyles that the younger male demographic are requesting, we also cater for those men who prefer a more traditional regular cut. The barbershop is also wheelchair accessible. We are also very accommodating and welcoming of anyone who may have extra needs or disabilities. Don’t miss out on the chats, craic and top-class haircut. Book your appointment today. Follow the link below.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my customers old and new for your continued support.

James Sheehan

Hello everybody My name is James Sheehan and I am the proud owner and manager of James Barbershop. As a young fella, I always had an interest in barbering. However, when I finished school, I trained and qualified as a carpenter. I worked as a carpenter for 13 years. When the recession hit in 2008, I was out of work and I decided this was the perfect opportunity for me to pursue my interest in barbering. This brought me into Killarney where I began my training as a barber at Julie Healy academy. It wasn’t long before I was cutting hair and loving my job. Once my training was complete, I decided I wanted to open my own barbershop. With the help and support of South Kerry Development Partnership and family, I set up my own business in Killorglin in 2012.I won two awards during my career so far.
  • South Kerry Development Enterprise Awards 2016
  • Connect Kerry Male Grooming Award 2019

Patrick Moroney

I have worked in James Barbershop, Killorglin since he opened the doors in 2012. Over the years, James has trained me to be a confident and capable barber that stays ahead of trends and most importantly puts my customers young and old first.

After my leaving cert in 2018, I trained and received my Certificate of Barbering from Frank Hackett Retro Barbers and in 2019 I received my Diploma in Barbering at the London School of Barbering. I hope to go back to get my Masters in Barbering soon.

I absolutely love barbering, no day is ever the same! I’m lucky to work in James Barber Shop. It’s a great place to work – the staff, atmosphere, cuts, craic and the clients are top class. I never stop learning, improving and being the best I can be!

In 2020 I was nominated in the Male grooming Category at the Connect Kerry Hair & Beauty Awards 2020.

Audrey Dower

I started hairdressing when I left school at 17. I began my training in 2007 in both women’s and men’s hair. I qualified in level 5 at mallow college of further education where I studied hairdressing for 2 years. I have worked in hairdressers and barbers in Ireland Australia and New Zealand. I have completed many courses including colour correction, advanced cutting and barbering.

I have a keen interest in classic cuts and also enjoy keeping up with the latest trends. I have worked in James barbershop since 2014.

Rory Dowley

Hairstylist at James barbershop since 2019. I trained at the cork academy of hairdressing to learn the craft of hairstyling and barbering. Since getting my qualifications I spent two years gaining valuable experience in male grooming work at Steve’s Barbershop Killarney.

  • 5 star review  I have been visiting James' Barber Shop since I moved down to Kerry some years ago. I actually stopped for a while because the wait was too long when they were really busy but I am back now with the online booking system and I'm back to stay. They are professional, with laughs and jokes in between, 100% Happy Customer

  • 5 star review  Can not recommend enough. Brought my 2 Yr old here for the 1st time. The process was brilliant i booked online got an appointment time and paid even before i got there which made it hassel free especially with a toddler. Both James and Rory were so friendly, kind and helpful. Using ipad and a car stool to make my sons haircut enjoyable. He got a balloon too after haircut which made his day 😁 Such a great service 👏 will definitely be back again.

5 star review  I came with my 2 boys who needed a haircut really badly. Especially my oldest son is a bit picky with the barber and he wasn't always satisfied in the future with other barbers but after his haircut at James' Barber Shop he told me he will never go to another barber again. So I left with 2 happy boys who already got a lot of compliments in school this morning and all for a very reasonable price. The whole staff there is super friendly and professional and everything is very clean. We felt safe and welcome. Thanks!

5 star review  Best haircut I've had in 24+ years! 👍✂️ (As I used to shave my hair myself) Since lockdown I had let it grow... to say it got out of hand is a bit of an understatement..🤣People's response would generally be one of 2 statements... "Jaysus Christ!" Or the slightly less offensive "Holy God!"Upon arriving into James' I was treated to a friendly and professional greeting. I was half expecting poor James to faint in fairness when he saw the challenge that lay ahead.✂️✂️ He's such a brave lad. 👍 He carried on like he experienced this type of mammoth challenge. (A mammoth may have had less hair)Once all the cutting, shaving, trimming, washing, and oiling was over... I have to say I' m very happy with the haircut and beard trim, I just hope my long suffering wife recognises me when she gets home! 🤣👍I'll definitely won't leave it as long next time! Thanks again James!

5 star review  We visited with my two young sons today, staff were great. These were long overdue haircuts given the times we live in, but they came out looking really well. Will def be back again for more haircuts... and lollipops and balloons :-).

5 star review  These are strange times and we are all having to adapt to new rules and changes to daily lives. Taking my son for a haircut today was different but it was also the same welcome and fun as it has always. been. Thanks to James' Barber Shop and his team for putting in the extra effort to help the kids adapt to the changes whilst still keeping it fun. 👍
